Where crypto work has a regulatory home, and which routes could give you a place to live.
By CitizensOS Research
The short answer
The Citadels of Crypto are the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Netherlands, France, Germany, Portugal, United Kingdom and Estonia in this editorial shortlist. Each has a published digital-asset regulatory framework and at least one immigration route. A crypto licence, bank account and residence permit are separate decisions; check all three before moving capital or family.
The shortlist
Which crypto jurisdictions also offer a credible way to live there?
The catch: DAFT requires a Dutch business and capital in it; EU crypto authorisation is a separate matter.
Banking and off-ramp: Check the chosen provider in the AFM/ESMA register and confirm bank acceptance.

A crypto-friendly headline can outlive the rules behind it. Franceβs legacy DASP transition has ended, Estoniaβs MiCA transition has ended, and the UK is preparing a new regime for 2027. Recheck licence status, bank access and immigration status before treating a jurisdiction as a citadel.
Questions
What should you check before choosing?
Does a MiCA licence give me EU residence?
No. MiCA regulates crypto-asset activities. Immigration permission is a separate application under the rules of the country where you plan to live.
Does a crypto-friendly country guarantee a bank account?
No. Banks and payment providers make their own onboarding, source-of-funds and risk decisions. Confirm the full fiat off-ramp before relocating.
Can I use DAFT as a passive crypto-investor visa?
No. DAFT is a Dutch self-employment route for qualifying US nationals, not a passive investment or crypto-holding permit.
Is Estonia e-Residency a residence permit?
No. Estonia e-Residency grants a digital identity, not a right to enter or live in Estonia.
Is the UK crypto regime settled?
No. The FCA says a new cryptoasset regulatory regime begins on 25 October 2027. A firm must assess todayβs registration rules and the coming authorisation rules separately.
Method and confidence
How was this shortlist built?
Editorial order weighs the clarity of official crypto rules, a verifiable route for founders or specialists, and banking and off-ramp diligence. It is not a crypto tax ranking or a claim that an exchange will onboard every resident. Where a country offers only a temporary stay, we label it as such.
The mobility routes were matched to the Product-Engine Mobility Asset Database inventory and checked against the linked government pages on . Confidence is highest for the existence of the linked programs and published regulatory frameworks. Individual eligibility, bank onboarding, tax treatment, processing time and ongoing presence rules require a case review before purchase or application.
